Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

Pagani Zonda Cinque Roadster

Pagani Zondas are among the most exclusive and exotic supercars in the world. Among this rarified group, the legendary Zonda Cinque, of which only five are made, are the ne plus ultra. Now the luxe Italian marque has ripped the top off the cream of the crop, so to speak, with the new Zonda Cinque Roadster. Again only five are being made with a pricetag of €1.3 million apiece. The Cinque is a (barely) street legal version of Pagani’s Zonda R track car; for the roadster version the carbon fibre titanium monocoque chassis has been reconfigured in order to maintain rigidity with a ragtop.

Other than that the flexibility of the carbon fibre means not many add-ons were needed to take it topless, so the Roadster should hit 350 km/h with its 678 hp Mercedes-Benz / AMG V12 engine, i.e. about the same as the hardtop version. Weighing in at 1210 kg the handbuilt Roadster is slated to bang the 100 km/h mark in a lightning-quick 3.4 seconds. Oh, and that €1.3 million also gets you an Inconel and titanium exhaust system, 19” and 20” forged aluminum wheels, Pirelli PZero tires, carbon-ceramic Brembo brakes, and even carbon-fibre seats with leather trim. Go speed racer, go.

Abu Dhabi Mar acquires Nobiskrug

Abu Dhabi Mar acquires Nobiskrug

UAE-based Abu Dhabi Mar has acquired a controlling interest in the Nobiskrug Shipyard in Rendsburg, Germany. Terms of the deal, which was finalized today in Hamburg, were not disclosed.

Since being founded two years ago, Abu Dhabi Mar has built up a workforce of about 400 from 25 countries. It has four yachts under construction. The Swift141 and Swift135 are conversion of Dutch-built navy frigates, 462 and 442 feet in length respectively. The Swift141, set for launch later this year, is shaped and styled by Pierrejean Design Studio in Paris.

Nobiskrug, with 100 million euros in turnover, has been in business since 1905. It has 420 employees working on a facility of about 173,000 sq. metres, including 44,000 sq. metres under cover. Its most recent launch is the World Superyacht Award-winning 74-meter Siren. Nobiskrug currently has five large yachts under construction.

Abu Dhabi Mar also has common ownership with the CMN Shipyard in Cherbourg, France. CMN entered yachtbuilding in 1960, and launched two yachts this year, Slipstream and Cloud 9. A third is under construction.

China becomes the new destination for super-yachts

China becomes the new destination for super-yachts

Sales of super-yachts are likely to soar in China, as the country is forecast to overtake the rest of the world in millionaire numbers.

"The Asian market, particularly China and Hong Kong, is one of our most important and fast-growing areas of growth, with around 20% of our growth coming from there in 2008," said Luca Cristino, general manager of Azimut, an Italian super yacht builder.

"While there is not much of a culture for cruising, our clients there are looking for luxury toys for entertaining. There is no real yachting infrastructure there yet but we expect this to change over the next few years."

Oyster Marine, a super-yacht builder, has also reported healthy growth in Asia. Earlier this year it opened an office in Hong Kong and expects sales in China and Hong Kong to grow from less than 10% last year to 30% over the next few years.

Chief executive David Tydeman said: "The UK market has been challenged, but exporting to China is helping demand."

China is set to have more millionaires then any other country in the world by 2013, having overtaken the UK in terms of number of millionaires last year, according to the Merrill Lynch and Capgemini World Wealth Report.
