Another superyacht company sinks
Another superyacht company has gone into liquidation as slow conditions affect business.
The shareholders of VaudreyMiller Yachts voted to put the company into liquidation following advice from their accountant that it was insolvent.
The company’s first liquidation report indicates that VaudreyMiller Yachts owes shareholders $2.9million, while the liquidator John Buchanan estimates the company has around $200,000 in assets.
Inland Revenue is the company’s biggest creditor – the department is owed $642,000.
The company described itself on its website as “expert in constructing lightweight epoxy composite structures” and said it specialised in crafting superyachts to tender.
The announcement that VaudreyMiller Yachts has gone into liquidation comes just after superyacht producer Sovereign Yachts faced a similar fate. While boat builder Calibre Boats and Genesis Marine have also gone into liquidation.
Sensation Yachts has also had to battle liquidation proceedings this year although these have since been withdrawn.
But it is not all bad news for the industry – NBR reported in last week’s print edition that Waitakere City Council was just a month off launch sites at its Hobsonville development. The development is aimed at superyacht builders and is hoped will create at 2000 jobs plus those in related industries.

Borus Berezovsky sell his super yacht Darius to Abdulla al-Futtaim and refuse to pay commission to Nicholas Edmiston
Borus Berezovsky sell his super yacht Darius to Abdulla al-Futtaim and refuse to pay commission to Nicholas Edmiston
BORIS BEREZOVSKY, the exiled Russian tycoon, has become embroiled in a bitter dispute with a boat broker after he sold his superyacht for a quick £47m profit.
The oligarch sold the 360ft yacht, equipped with military water cannon capable of sinking an approaching boat at more than 100 yards, to Abdulla al-Futtaim, a billionaire car dealer from the United Arab Emirates.
The sale, for about £217m, has pitted him against Nicholas Edmiston, his former yachtbroker. Berezovsky has issued a High Court writ against Edmiston to establish that he is not entitled to any commission. Edmiston is expected to countersue for a sum believed to be £12.75m.
Edmiston is widely regarded as the world’s premier broker of superyachts. He is an Establishment figure, whose friends include Prince Philip and Prince Charles. His clients include the businessmen Sir Anthony Bamford, the chairman of JCB, and Larry Ellison, the chief executive of Oracle.

He has supplied Berezovsky with a series of yachts since the oligarch fled Moscow to Britain in 2000, and was mortified to discover that the Russian had sold the yacht without paying him a commission.
Friends said last week Edmiston was “very upset” at his treatment. One said: “It’s just not cricket. Nick feels he’s been treated very shabbily by Boris.”
The Russian commissioned his latest toy – codenamed Project Darius – three years ago. He wanted it to rival the Pelorus, the 377ft yacht owned by his arch enemy Roman Abramovich, the owner of Chelsea football club.
Now undergoing sea trials in Germany, Darius is one of the six most expensive yachts ever built. It was designed by Tim Heywood, also responsible for the Pelorus. “Numerous clients have come to me and said I want one like the Pelorus but I want you to give it its own personality,” Heywood said.
“It’s virtually a floating hotel. It’s got seven decks and all the usual things, a helipad, a gymnasium, cinema, hospital room and a spa. It’s also got its own power station and sewerage with a good-sized pool for guests and a private pool for the client.”
The boat has the highest security specifications of any private yacht built. Berezovsky ordered a personal “escape launch” – a speedboat with turbo-charged twin diesel engines capable of exceeding 75 knots.
It is also equipped with an arsenal of sonic guns that fire low-frequency sound waves that can burst the eardrums of approaching assailants.
The tycoon made most of his fortune by capturing Russian state assets at knockdown prices during Russia’s dash towards privatisation. He denies rumours that he has lost large sums in the recession.
He is said to have paid just under £170m for the yacht, and last autumn, while it was still under construction, he sold it to al-Futtaim, for about £217m, and a profit estimated at £47m.
He did not pay the commission of £12.75m which Edmiston and a fellow broker, Merle Wood in America, now claim they were due. “Nick was stiffed by Boris. He was carved out of the deal,” a friend said.
Lord Bell, Berezovsky’s spokesman, said: “They are not entitled to any commission. We are suing them. They are not suing us. They did not sell the boat and we shall demonstrate this in court. Therefore, we would like them to leave us alone and stop bothering us. They are just going round annoying people.”
Edmiston was unavailable for comment. But his son Jamie, who works with him, said: “I’m aware of this but unfortunately our business is highly confidential and we don’t comment.”
A friend said: “Nick introduced the boat to the buyer and he did a lot of work on the deal. He doesn’t want to get into a war of words with a client but he’s disappointed and very upset. After all £12.75m is a lot of money to say goodbye to.”

Arabian billionaire Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri dropped the equivalent of $14.5 million on UAE license plate number 1.
Some records stay in place for a while, and some are shattered regularly. Records set for obscene spending on frivolity never seem to stay put for very long, however, as there's always someone with more cash to blow on something ridiculous. And so it transpires that after tuning magnate Afzal Kahn paid $870,000 for the F1 license plate in the UK, Arabian billionaire Saeed Abdul Ghaffar Khouri dropped the equivalent of $14.5 million on UAE license plate number 1.
If that seems like a big hunk of cash for a registration number, consider that Khouri, who has yet to decide on which of his assuredly many vehicles he'll mount the plate, was prepared to spend over twice that much – 100 million emirate dirhams, or $30 million – on the plate. The sale took place at an auction in Abu Dhabi, the proceeds from which are earmarked towards assisting victims of traffic accidents. At least it's going to a good cause, then.

S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG
OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE
Specific enhancements to the S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG: Exclusive top-of-the-line AMG S-Class models now boast even greater appeal
Affalterbach – The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG and S 65 AMG, the powerful top-of-the-line S-Class models, are now even more appealing: thanks to a series of subtle yet extremely effective fine-tuning measures, the two performance saloons are even more striking and priceless than ever before. The updated technology is aimed at ensuring a more dynamic driving experience as well as optimum active and passive safety.
Exclusivity and dynamism, effortless superiority and high tech – both of the top-of-the-line S-Class models from Mercedes-AMG embody all of these characteristics. Since its market launch some three years ago, the S-Class made by AMGhas won the hearts of over 8000 customers around the world – turning it into the undisputed market leader in the small yet highly exclusive high-performance luxury saloon segment.
Volker Mornhinweg, Chairman of Mercedes-AMGGmbH: "Our discerning clientele appreciate the synthesis of uncompromising performance and dynamic, exclusive equipment, a unique proposition in this market segment. We have raised the bar further in terms of driving dynamics, safety and passenger comfort with the extensively updated new series of the S 63 AMGand S 65 AMG."
High-revving V8 engine and effortlessly superior biturbo V12 engine
The S 63 AMG, with its powerful, high-revving 386-kW/525-hp AMG 6.3-litre V8 naturally aspirated engine developing 630 newton metres of torque, is capable of accelerating to a speed of 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. The S 65 AMG, meanwhile, demonstrates even greater superiority: its AMG6.0-litre biturbo V12 engine delivers maximum power of 450 kW/612 hp and maximum torque of 1000 newton metres, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds. Both AMG saloons are electronically limited to 250 km/h. Despite no changes having been made to the engine data and performance values, it has still been possible to reduce fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 3 percent.
Contributing to the even more exceptional status of the models is the new, more pronounced arrow-shaped radiator grille, featuring twin chromed louvres in the case of the S 65 AMG. The new front apron incorporates striking, AMG-specific LED daytime driving lights and two transverse air outlets on each side. Further striking features include the "6.3 AMG" or "V12 Biturbo" lettering on the front wings, and redesigned exterior mirrors.
Side sill panels emphasise the elegant line of the front apron through to the rear of the vehicle, where the new rear apron features yet another highlight: the centre section of the black diffuser insert is now painted in the same colour as the vehicle body. New tail lights with 52 LEDs in the form of a double "C" also give the S-Class an unmistakable appearance from behind. A distinctive element of both models comes in the guise of the AMG sports exhaust with two chromed twin tailpipes, featuring a V12 design in the case of the S 65 AMG. Visual aspects which distinguish the V8 from the V12 model also include the attractive AMG light-alloy wheels: the S 63 AMG has 19-inch AMGmulti-spoke wheels painted titanium grey with a high-sheen finish and fitted with 255/40 (front) and 275/40 (rear) tyres. The S 65 AMG, on the other hand, comes with 20-inch AMG forged wheels painted titanium grey with a mirror finish and fitted with 255/35 (front) and 275/35 (rear) tyres.
Crosswind stabilisation, Torque Vectoring Brake and Direct-Steer system
The AMG sports suspension based on Active Body Control (ABC) provides crosswind stabilisation as standard equipment for the first time: thanks to this function, influences caused by crosswinds are compensated for, or – in the case of strong gusts – reduced to a minimum. ABC compensates against the effect of crosswinds by adjusting the wheel load distribution within milliseconds, using the yaw-rate and lateral acceleration sensors of the Electronic Stability Program ESP®.
Also making up the standard equipment is the new Torque Vectoring Brake: when cornering, brief direct application of the brakes has an effect on the vehicle's inner rear wheel so that the saloon corners precisely and under control at all times. The Torque Vectoring Brake is an additional feature of the Electronic Stability Program ESP®and not only noticeably improves responsiveness but also active handling safety in critical conditions. The driving experience is further heightened thanks to the Direct-Steer system: with its variable ratio depending on steering angle, it helps to ensure a more direct response when cornering, and therefore more responsive handling – in brief: enhanced driving pleasure at the wheel of the Mercedes-AMG S-Class.
Based on the ADAPTIVE BRAKE system, the AMGhigh-performance braking system continues to provide optimum fade resistance, deceleration and sensitivity. The front axle features a double floating brake caliper. This exclusive technology combines the advantages of a sliding-caliper disc brake – reduced heat transfer to the brake fluid and clear advantages in terms of comfort thanks to the brake lining guide mechanism – with the efficiency of an extra large fixed caliper brake.
Extensive range of standard equipment with exclusive flair
The interior appointments are every bit as exclusive as the high-tech package: as soon as its door is opened, the S 65 AMG welcomes the driver with large, animated "AMG V12 BITURBO" lettering in the instrument cluster's central display. The AMG main menu provides the driver with information about engine oil temperature, current gear range and the battery voltage. In the case of the S 63 AMG, the extensive range of standard equipment includes not only PASSION leather appointments, with natural leather in the seat side bolsters, but also front AMG sports seats with climate control, massage, multicontour and dynamic handling function. The Exclusive PASSION leather upholstery in the S 65 AMG, meanwhile, with its AMG V12 diamond pattern design, exudes an air of even greater refinement. Ample use of trim elements and the AMG-specific analogue clock, featuring an IWC design, are a given in both AMG models. Both the AMG SPEEDSHIFT 7G-TRONIC of the S 63 AMG, as well as the five-speed automatic AMG SPEEDSHIFT transmission of the S 65 AMG, are fitted with DIRECT SELECT gearshift. Gear changes are carried out by means of AMG aluminium shift paddles on the new AMG sports steering wheel.
New standards in active and passive safety
In addition, both of the top-of-the-line AMG models set new standards when it comes to active and passive safety through an unrivalled combination of innovative camera and radar-based driver assistance systems. These include the ATTENTION ASSIST drowsiness detection system, Adaptive Highbeam Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and the PRE-SAFE® Brakes, which are linked to the proximity regulating radar and intervene independently in the event of an impending accident to act like an invisible crumple zone. Night View Assist with infrared camera also features a novel pedestrian detection system. The pictures from the windscreen camera are also used by the new Speed Limit Assist, available as an option. The Brake Assist PLUS and DISTRONIC PLUS proximity control support the driver in the event of emergency braking. The PRE-SAFE® positioning function and NECK-PRO luxury head restraints in the front are now also included as standard.
New infotainment systems, including COMAND APS with new SPLITVIEW display, which shows different images for driver and front passenger simultaneously, enhance occupant comfort even further.
Exclusive optional extras are also available from the AMG PERFORMANCE STUDIO:
* 20-inch AMG twin-spoke forged wheels, painted in titanium grey with a mirror finish and fitted with 255/35 R 20 front and 275/30 R 20 rear tyres (only S 63 AMG)
* AMG trim in black piano lacquer/carbon fibre
While the S 63 AMG is available in short or long-wheelbase versions, the S 65 AMG is only available as a long-wheelbase version. Both top-of-the-line AMGmodels will have their market launches from the end of June 2009.

Germany’s largest shipbuilding group, ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems, part of steel giant ThyssenKrupp, is axing 450 jobs at its facilities in Kiel and Emden. A TKMS spokesperson confirmed that the group wants to cut 200 of 2,400 jobs at HDW shipyard in Kiel by March 2010. At Emden-based Nordseewerke 250 of 1,400 employees will also be made redundant.
The move was necessary due to cancellations of orders, which resulted in under-utilisation at the facilities in Kiel and Emden. In April, orders for four containerships at TKMS yards HDW and Nordseewerke were cancelled by NSB Niederelbe, which was unable to get financing from banks. In addition, an order for six large yachts was cancelled.
TKMS is merging its naval and merchant shipbuilding business units in Kiel. HDW Gaarden, which builds containerships and yachts, and submarine specialist HDW will be combined again after TKMS separated them some years ago. The future of the Blohm+Voss shipyard in Hamburg would also depend on the number of orders it received.
ThyssenKrupp has additional problems at Nobiskrug, which is on the verge of insolvency. It sold the Rendsburg-based yacht-building specialist last year to Guernsey-based investor Eagle River Capital but gave guarantees for five yachts currently under construction at Nobiskrug. However, despite its interest to save the yard from insolvency, TKMS has not agreed to a joint rescue plan involving banks and the state Schleswig-Holstein that would see it increasing its guarantees.
The rescue package is said to be worth Euro 150m ($209.6m) including loan facilities and guarantees.

Super-yacht hotel put on hold
Super-yacht hotel put on hold
June 21. 2009 3:18PM GMT
Plans for the world’s largest luxury yacht hotel, which was due to open in London in time for the 2012 Olympics, have been put on hold as a result of the global economic crisis, the Dubai-based company behind the project said on Sunday.
According to the original plans, the 170 metre super-yacht would have been permanently moored at London’s Docklands, with 158 rooms and suites, an on-board ballroom, a spa, gym, pool, and a celebrity chef restaurant and bar.
“Everything is on hold at this point,” said Steve Tight, the chief executive of Aquiva, which was set up with a focus on luxury water-based resorts and residential developments. “We’re going to wait until the global economy improves a bit before we go forward.”
Aquiva had also been working on launching superyacht villas in the Middle East, and had already identified a number of sites in the region to house its first resort and residential project. Aquiva said the conceptual masterplan included a 230 metre luxury megayacht hotel as the centrepiece of the development, moored against a island with 52 exclusive beach villas, 16 superyacht villas in secluded coves, a private beach club, signature spa, restaurants and private marina.
Mr Tight said that all of these plans had been put on hold too.
“I wish we had a crystal ball to know when the liquidity crisis will start to ease and there will be construction financing available,” he said.
The company also planned to expand internationally to locations “that will ultimately benefit from a network of megayachts and the economies and lifestyle experiences these provide”, according to Aquiva’s website.
The primary investors in Aquiva include Khalid Al Ghurair, chairman of Khalid Al Ghurair Enterprises, Jorgen Philip-Sorensen, chairman of Sorven Holdings and founder of Group 4 Securicor, one of the world’s largest security companies.

Louis Vuitton vurderet til 19,4 mia. dollar og Hermès til 7,8 mia. dollar
Her er verdens mægtigste luksus-varemærker
Et af de mest forfalskede mærker i modens historie indtager førstepladsen på den seneste rangliste over verdens mest værdifulde luksus-varemærker.
Top 10 luksusmode-mærkevarer (varemærke-værdi) 2009:
1 Louis Vuitton (19,4 mia. dollar)
2 Hermès (7,8 mia. dollar)
3 Gucci (7,5 mia. dollar)
4 Chanel (6,2 mia. dollar)
5 Rolex (5,5 mia. dollar)
6 Hennessy (5,4 mia. dollar)
7 Cartier (4,9 mia. dollar)
8 Moët & Chandon (4,8 mia. dollar)
9 Fendi (3,4 mia. dollar)
10 Prada (3,5 mia. dollar)

Thierry Hermés grundlagde sit saddelfirma i 1837. Siden er sortimentet i det franske firma blevet udvidet med støvler, smykker, interiør og ikke mindst slips og silketørklæder.
Urproducent i fremdrift

Big list of free press release distribution sites
Big list of free press release distribution sites
How to post on Google News
****************************
If you’d like to distribute your press releases for free in a way that’s actually effective:
A) make sure you have something newsworthy to say,

Marbella old town Feria (festival) is now this is the real Spain.
A taste of the real Spain
Forget the gaudy playground of the rich. For a flavour of authentic Marbella, you can’t beat the atmosphere – or the great food, whether from a market stall or in a tapas bar – of the old town.
HAVE YOU ever wondered what happened to James Hewitt, the ginger-haired former British cavalry officer, so-called love rat and reality TV player?
Princess Diana’s former consort is now running a bar in the Costa del Sol. But not any old bar – after two years lying low in the Marbella sunshine, the major has burst back into the limelight as host and patron of Polo House, a glitzy bar and restaurant near a former Aresbank building on Marbella’s Golden Mile.
Hewitt is not the only minor celebrity being dragged out to put their name to a new Marbella restaurant in these recessionary days. Jean-Christophe Novelli had practically every British soap actor under the sun when he presided over the opening of the latest of his long-distance ventures, Marbella Novelli, in the newly refurbished Hotel Lorcrimar, at the Puerto Banús end of the Golden Mile.
Polo House and Marbella Novelli are emblematic of a certain type of Marbella habitue – the sort of place you’ll find those gaudy gals from the Marbella Belles reality TV show swigging Cristal and not nibbling on canapes – but this is not the real Marbella, not by a long shot.
There is, at the heart of this historic town, a well-preserved casco antiguo (old town) where you can walk the Arab walls, investigate the remains of the 10th-century fortress, admire the harmonious mix of Renaissance, Baroque, Gothic and Moorish architecture, and catch a glimpse of traditional Spanish life in the narrow streets where, if you’re lucky, you’ll find a few doors open on to cool interior patios with lavish tiled walls and floors.
Most Irish visitors to the area stay in one of the sprawling urbanisations stretching for kilometres east and west of Marbella, and come into town for shopping and maybe dinner. But staying in the heart of the old town, in one of several excellent boutique hotels, guest houses (pensiones) or self- catering units, gives access to the real, beating heart of this vibrant town, far from the beachside glamour and glitz.
To get a real feel for Marbella, begin by taking in the views in Plaza de los Naranjos (Orange Square), the heart of the old town, but don’t have your morning coffee there. Do as the locals do and head up one of the many narrow streets and find a less touristy spot for your drink.
The terrace at El Reloj, a cafe bar on Plaza Puente Ronda, is a good spot for people-watching and mingling with a good mix of locals and visitors – and an Illy coffee, served charmingly with a mini madeleine on the side, will set you back just €1.50.
A visit to the Mercado Municipal is a must if you’re self- catering or searching for food gifts to being home. Totally hidden away on the second floor of one of the town’s multistorey car parks, at Calle Jacinto Benavente, is a thriving fish, meat and vegetable market.
Get there early in the morning for the best selection of local and imported fish. It’s not cheap – penny-wise locals buy their fish at the Eroski supermarket on Avenida el Trapiche – but the choice is huge, and the fish undeniably fresh.
If you’re in town for a while, you’ll begin to recognise many of the town’s restaurateurs doing their daily shop there, and you could just spot the very sardines you’ll be savouring later, on the beach.
Don’t miss the excellent kitchen knives, steels, cleavers and general kitchenware on sale at Chuchillería Jesús, where less than €20 will buy you a knife that will become a lifelong favourite, and Jesus Peinado Ruiz will grind it to razor-sharpness in front of you. (But don’t forget to stow it in checked luggage . . . I still hanker after the perfect paring knife I left in my hand luggage and had to dispose of at Malaga airport.)
This is also the place to buy saffron (azafrán) – the very best comes from La Mancha – and smoked paprika (pimentón) to bring home. The paprika comes in dulce (sweet), piccante (hot) and the harder to find agridulce (bittersweet) varieties; the best is Pimentón de la Vera.
Hard-core cooks will also be tempted by the strings of dried peppers, of varying levels of heat intensity.
For olive oil it’s best to head back to the old town, where a specialist shop, D Oliva, has just opened at Calle Nueva 9, near Plaza de los Naranjos. Here you can have a tutored tasting of the huge selection of Spanish and other extra-virgin oils on sale, and pick up a selection of vinegars, tapenades and even cosmetics made with olives.
With your shopping stowed away, join the locals for a late (by Irish standards) lunch at one of the old town’s many tapas bars or traditional restaurants, such as El Gallo, at Calle Lobatas 44. Three generations of the Elena Martin family are involved in this popular restaurant with rooms.
This isn’t the high-flying, Gucci-clad, Prada bag-toting, perma-tanned, celebrity- obsessed Marbella of lore – instead it’s a charming, laid-back place to soak up the sun, shopping and eating.

Skina. Calle Aduar 12, +34952765277, www.restauranteskina.com. Is this the smallest one-star restaurant in the Michelin Guide? Maybe, but it’s also one of the best value – tasting menu €55.
The Orange Tree. Plaza General Chinchilla 1, +34952924613 A firm favourite with the Irish in Marbella, and it offers a €22 three-course dinner until 8pm, with an a la carte later.
El Patio de los Perfumes. Calle Aduar 1, +34952828650 Trendy, French-owned bar and restaurant with tables in a candle-lit garden in summer and a Moorish tent in winter. There is a flamenco dinner show some nights in the summer season.
Los Sardinales. Alicate Playa, El Rosario, +34952837012 A little excursion outside the old town, but worth it. Walk along the beach to Alicate Playa (an hour and a half, or a little more), eastwards from Marbella town centre, for the best paella in the area, and a gawk at Antonio Banderas and Melanie Griffiths’s beach house, just opposite.
5 places for tapas
La Venencia. Plaza de los Olivos, +34952779963. There are several branches of this chain in Marbella – most people know the one with the barrels outside, near the beachfront – but this is the one the locals eat at.
Messura. Calle Tetuán 9, 00-34-670-348-118 www.messura.es. Strikingly modern tapas bar, with fashionable nibbles on small plates.
El Estrecho. Calle San Lázaro 12, 00-34-952-770004. The best-known tapas bar, and winner of best café bar in Marbella last year, on an incredibly narrow street lined on both sides with tapas joints.
Taberna Casa Curro. Calle Pantaleón 7, 00-34-662-462955. Cadiz-style tiled tapas bar; this is the place to go to for plates of glistening pink prawns from Sanlucar, with a small beer or a Manzanilla sherry on the side.
La Taberna del Pintxo. Avenida Miguel Cano 7, 00-34-952-829321, www.latabernadelpintxo.com. Not strictly speaking within the confines of the old town, but not to be missed. Grab a seat, select what you want from the cold counters, or whatever takes your fancy from the hot tapas brought around by the waiters. Your bill will be calculated when you have finished. Don’t hold back; bills are surprisingly reasonable, typically at about €15 per person.
Where to shop
The recession is a boon to some retailers, and none more so than the vintage sector. At Deja Vue, on Calle Pedraza 8, there has never been a better choice of high-end designer resale and vintage stock on offer, as the cash-strapped Costa glitterati cash in on their overflowing closets. Chanel, Ferragamo, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chloé . . . it’s all here, and it costs nothing to try it on and see how haute couture, at knockdown prices, suits. More bargains are to be had at the factory shop for well-respected Spanish leather and clothing company El Caballo, at Calle Huerta Chica 14. In August you’ll see canny Madrileños queuing out the door for cut-price handbags, shoes and accessories bearing the chain’s distinctive equestrian logo.
Hot spot
Calle Peral, in the heart of the old town, is nightlife central, with everything from the traditional English bar the Tavern to tapas bars, several cocktail bars and nightclubs. Stylish Marbella youth and tourists converge here, and there’s something for everyone. For a more upscale nightlife experience head to the nightclubs run by the big hotels, right on the beach. Suite del Mar, at the Puente Romano hotel, is very sophisticated, and for a gawp at eurotrash in action book a table or, better still, a white-linen-draped daybed at Nikki Beach, in nearby Elviria.
To drink Tinto verano, the summer drink of red wine and lemonade; manzanilla sherry, dry, slightly salty and delicious; a glass of garlicky gazpacho; or a caña of beer.
To begin Jamon bellota (air-dried ham from acorn-fed pigs); salpicon de mariscos (seafood with peppers and onions in a vinegary dressing); Russian salad (nothing like you imagine it to be, really).
To follow Morzilla con cebollas (black pudding with onions); patatas bravas (fried potatoes with spicy mayo); pinchos de gambas (grilled prawns on a stick); rabo de toro (oxtail stew); adobo (marinated, deep-fried white fish); and lomo al horno (slow-roasted pork).

Agent4Stars.com Rating 5/5 or should that be 7/7 stars!
The World´s Largest Super Yacht M/Y Eclipse has been delayed to 2010.
Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich's new Eclipse, designed to be the world's biggest, will have a military-grade missile defense system to keep the oligarch safe. It will be longer than Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid's 530-ft. M/Y Dubai, currently ranked as the biggest yacht in the world. Secrecy surrounds the Eclipse, but an antiballistic missile defense system is being installed by AST, a company with close ties to both the Blohm + Voss shipyard in Hamburg, where the yacht is being built, and the German defense ministry.
The Eclipse is also being equipped with armor plating surrounding the bridge and Abramovich's master suite, as well as bullet-proof windows. There's also a submarine that can be launched underwater and dive to a depth of 160 ft. that doubles as an escape pod, as well as two helicopter pads. Civilian ships are not allowed to carry weapons and so have to limit themselves to defense systems, but Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz gets around this by having his 482-ft. yacht registered as a Royal Saudi Navy vessel, said to be equipped with French-made Exocet missiles. Pirate attacks on luxury craft are on the rise of late.
Abramovich owns three other megayachts already: the 377 ft. Pelorus, the 282 ft. Ecstasea and the 160 ft. Sussurro. And possibly have M/Y Luna a bigger version of M/Y Le Grand Bleu in construction too.Roman´s Super yacht Fleet will have a value in excess of € 500mill. by 2010, if he does not choose to sell one of his older yacht´s. Running cost will amount to about 10% of the value, which means 50 million euro´s a year.

Hugh Hefner May Sell Playboy
According to several reports, Hugh Hefner may sell Playboy, and in the pool of potential buyers is Virgin Media billionaire Richard Branson. The company had been severely affected by the internet, and probably the economy too, and suffered about $13 million in losses in the first quarter of 2009. Playboy shares hit as low as $1.15.
Hef, who is now 83, is rumored to be thinking in the $300 million range for the Playboy empire.
In other Playboy news, Hef’s former girlfriend Kendra Wilkinson is set to marry Hank Baskett at the Playboy mansion on June 27. The Playboy hottie disappointed many when she announced she will no longer pose for Playboy, and is instead thinking about having kids.

Property prices in Dubai will have fallen another 40 percent by the end of 2010 when one in three homes will be vacant, UBS said on Thursday.
“From our vantage point we think we’re still relatively early in the cycle,” analyst Saud Masud told Arabian Business in an interview about recent reports that Dubai real estate prices are showing signs of stabilising. "We believe the fundamentals are weakening as we speak.”
That was most likely due to pent up demand coming into the market and consumer confidence recovering from the initial shock following a steep decline in prices, Masud said.
“This is a very natural reaction. No market drops from peak to trough in a straight line.”
But as a significant amount of new supply looks set to enter the market this year, there are doubts as to where the new demand is going to come from.
“I think what we have to ask ourselves is: what is the fundamental, underlying demand? Is there any net new demand that will stabilise the market?” Masud said.
Analysts currently estimate a vacancy rate in Dubai of 10 to 20 percent.
Adding 30,000 new units to the market by the end of 2010 would translate into another 10 percent of vacancies, Masud said.
Colliers said in April it believes 64,800 new homes will be ready by the end of 2011, down from an earlier estimate of 140,000 units.
“The net impact from population exits I’m putting to around 5 to 10 percent of the total market impact.”
That adds up to around one third of Dubai properties being vacant by the end of next year, he said.
Masud reiterated UBS’s April prediction that Dubai residential property will bottom out at around AED500-800 per square foot, which would be around 40 percent below current levels.
UBS said in March that Dubai’s expatriate population will decrease by 8 percent this year and by 2 percent next year.
Deutsche Bank said on Thursday that property prices in the UAE will fall another 15-20 percent before bottoming out at the end of this year.

U.S. recession ended April 2009, Barclays says
The longest U.S. recession since the Great Depression may have ended last month, according to Barry Knapp, a strategist at Barclays Capital.
“We appear to be in the sweet spot of a recovery,” Knapp wrote in a weekly report on May 8.
Source Bloomberg
The CHART OF THE DAY highlights spending on services, one indicator that Knapp used to reach his conclusion. Outlays rose 1.5 percent in each of the past two quarters after a 0.1 percent drop in last year’s third quarter, the first decline since 1991, according to data compiled by the Commerce Department.
“Service-sector employers expected sharp drops in demand, and may have overshot in terms of cutting back” on workers, he wrote. The report cited figures from ADP Employer Services that showed job losses at service companies slowed to 229,000 last month from 384,000 in March.
Quarterly percentage changes in demand for durable goods, made to last more than three years, and other goods are included in the chart. Both rebounded in the first quarter after tumbling in 2008’s final three months.
The National Bureau of Economic Research may eventually declare April 2009 as the end of the recession, Knapp’s report said. The slump began in December 2007, according to the panel, which took a year to set that date.
While capital markets are also on the mend, stocks “have overshot the improvement of the economic outlook,” Knapp wrote. His year-end estimate of 757 for the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index is the lowest among 11 strategists in a Bloomberg survey.

Subject: FW: My client bought the 065 McLaren f1 at RM auctions.
On behalf of Gordon Murray
Dear Mr Katafai,
Thank you for your e-mail and for your comments about the F1. Your client must have been extremely pleased that you secured the purchase of the McLaren Chassis 065, they don’t become available very often!
In answer to your question about the next collector’s car, I think the McLaren short tail racing car is going to go up in value the most (after the LM of course!), however, Gordon Murray Design are considering designing (with the same team that designed the McLaren F1) a very special Limited Edition sports car for the future, so watch this space!
Thanks again for your comments.
Kind regards,
Gordon

Marbella being elected the European City for Sport 2009.
This year it has raised the bar even higher and there are a wide range of exciting sporting events and activities to take part in
The image of the Costa del Sol as a fantastic place for sports has been given a huge boost by Marbella being elected the European City for Sport 2009. In conjunction with winning this prestigious title, Marbella Town Hall and the Andalucía Council have set a plan in motion to invest 105 million Euros in improving sporting facilities over the next twelve years. They have also scheduled an amazing programme of sporting events to take place throughout the region this year.
2009 Sporting Calendar
2009 has already been a busy year for sport. Marbella hosted The Andalucia Tennis Experience in April, featuring Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic. This well-attended event showcased some of the best young Spanish talent. The tournament lasted a week and was won by Jankovic in an exciting final against Spaniard Carla Suarez.
Throughout the year, the 2nd Costa del Sol Sailing Grand Prix has been taking place from marinas along the Coast. This exciting sailing event consists of ten races featuring the fast and light Platu 25 boats. The final race has been scheduled for June 6-7, and the city is also hosting its 6th Regatta on 13 and 14 of June.
The important series of local golf tournaments kicked off with the Andalucía Open Golf tournament from 26th to 29th March in Seville. Golf fans are eagerly anticipating the 2009 Volvo World Match Play from 24th to 27th September 2009 at the Finca Cortesin Golf Club near Estepona. This is part of PGA European Tour and will feature some of the world’s best players competing for the €3,250,000 prize fund.
The Spanish Tennis Federation has approved Marbella’s application to host the Davis Cup quarter-final between the Spanish and German teams. The event will take place between the 10th and 12th of July at the Plaza de Toros bullring in Puerto Banus. Spain is the defending champion of the Davis Cup and has a great record in this competition, winning the title in 2000, 2004 and last year. This 11,000 capacity stadium is set to see huge local support for the Spanish team, which includes the ever popular Rafael Nadal, as well as tennis fans from all around the world.
There are also two great local football teams performing well in the 2009 season; Malaga and UC Marbella. Malaga is currently in 8th position in the Spanish First League and the team is dreaming of getting through to the UEFA cup. Home games are played at the La Rosaleda stadium in Malaga and information can be found in English at www.malagafootballenglish.com. Tickets can be bought from five days before the match at the stadium from 25€ per ticket.
Marbella FC has been playing better than ever and battling bravely in 2 Division B to move up to the next division. Matches are held in the football stadium close to Marbella centre and are a great day out. Tickets start from just 8€ with kids going for free, more information can be found at www.marbellafc.com.
Of course, if you don’t want to attend a spectator sport, you can always enjoy something sporting yourself. There are approximately 60 fantastic golf courses on the Coast to enjoy a round, many sports centres offering great tennis facilities and numerous seaside promenades in the area for a bit of exercise. The Department of Environment of Marbella is also organizing a programme of guided walks around the local area, including the iconic La Concha mountain.

If Spanish property buyers looking for a bargain property in Spain don’t act soon they may lose out.
Spanish Property experts strongly believe if Spanish property buyers looking for a bargain property in Spain don’t act soon they may lose out. This incredible claim which is hard to believe in such a depressed market is because it looks like Investor groups with substantial funds are now ready to move into the Spanish property market and thus taking the best priced properties off the market .
“The major reason Costa del Sol property is so depressed at the present time is due to a massive oversupply of property on the coast with far too few buyers and far too much property but Costa del Sol is still where the majority of people want to be with the widest choice of lifestyle anywhere in the world from the rich and famous in Marbella and Puerto Banus to the more sedate areas like Nerja and Duquesa where its possible to live very cheaply indeed”.
However it now looks like big Investor groups are finally ready to take advantage of the property market where some properties can be bought for less than it would cost you to build taking all costs into consideration. “We have always known that investors were going to come into the market in 2009 but our best guess was around September time but it now seems a few groups want to make sure they get the best properties and plan to move in very soon with one group looking to buy as many as 200 units at the best price. Obviously if they are successful in that they will be taking all the heavily discounted properties that have 35% or more reductions from last years price off the market. This will be a positive move for Costa del Sol as a whole with around 2.8m in Stamp duty alone helping the economy in such depressed times. However the draw back is that the individual property buyers may lose out and not be able to buy the property bargain they were hoping for and our advice would be to make sure you don’t lose out and act if you get a really good deal. What were talking about here is the heavily discounted product from Developers needing to sell and obviously there will still be some distressed sales where the Vendors will not want to sell at the price these Investors are offering”

They are popular in Florida and Arizona, but now the bargain property hunter bus has reached Europe with a club offering tours of distressed real estate on the Costa del Sol.Special VIP tours for serious investors can be arranged to fit your budget.
On offer are luxury properties on new developments with discounts of up to 50%.
'The market is stagnating and developers need to shift new homes that in some cases they have built and paid for or are being repossessed or belong to the banks,' said organizer stefan Katafai of Luxury Portal http://www.agent4stars.com
He said that discounts of between 20 and 40% are common and some are even down by 50% on previous asking prices.
The first tour earlier this month included Spanish, German and Russian bargain hunters eager to see what is available. They looked at new developments in Marbella, Estepona and Benehavis.
The discounted property included luxury apartments and penthouses and golf and beach real estate. There was a €1.1 million penthouse reduced to €500,000, and semi detached properties on a golf development that have been repossessed by a bank selling at 50% discount.
'The prices go up or down depending on the debt on the property.
